Avengers Drop GD From Club's Name for 2005 Season
    Posted: 08/11/2004 @ 12:45

The General Dynamics Avengers (or GD-A for short) have announced that they will be dropping the “General Dynamics” portion from the club’s name. This move stems from the fact that the team was unable to land any form of corporate sponsorship from the company.

“There is just no point in continuing to name the team after the company because (a) half of the team does not work at GD and (b) the company did not sponsor us” says Wolan.

The team will now be called “The Avengers”.

The “GD” portion of the name was added because it was believed, at the time, that cooperate sponsorship could be obtained. However, after many attempts, team member Becky Wandrei realized that it was not going to happen and gave up.

For book keeping purposes, the old team name will continue to be used when referring to the team’s 2004 season. The new name will be applied for the 2005 season, which may change again if a new sponsor is located.
