Corbett Report #9 (Game 11)
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?

I, Corbett
Normally this is the (cyber) space that I would use to talk about last night's game, which I suppose I will get around to below, but first I wanted to dip into the mailbag (figuratively speaking, of course, although it seems like a fun idea to have a forum for answering questions... maybe I should hook this up) and answer a reader's question. "Who the heck is Corbett?" I see it on the message board. I heard it in a sound file from last night's game. Ray even told me that I'm expected to put in an appearance at some point. Wow.. I'm stunned... I don't know what to say. I don't know if people want to pat me on the back and say "good job on those articles!" or if they want to pop me in the mouth. Hopefully, it's the former and not the latter.

Well, what can I say about myself? First of all, I sit next to your "capitano" at work. So when something goes wrong, and I mean horribly wrong, I usually hear about it. And then I verify it through the 8 other sources that I have here at work. That, and I dilligently read the game summaries as soon as they're posted. Originally, I was asked to be a part of this team.. a full-fledged batting and fielding member of the team. But sometimes stuff doesn't work out. Sometimes the permission slip doesn't get signed. So, if you haven't met me yet this season, that's why.
I'm really not supposed to be out there at the field unless I am incognito or standing behind a bush or something. Then one day I see a link on the website for "The Corbett Report" and I thought "Great, this should work out well! My last name is Corbett! It's a match made in heaven." Actually, I had never been asked. But never one to back down from a challenge, I started submitting little articles to Andy to post on the site, some of the content about softball, and other stuff just for general amusement. Then it started to take off and I got some good feedback on it. And since anybody would enjoy positive feedback like that, it only egged me on more. And there you have it. Sometimes I even post to the message board too.
Game 11 Comments
On to the game. Not too much to write about here. Sounds like another crushing loss, possibly due to lack of attendance... possibly due to lack of sober ball players. I mean, listening to those audio clips it seems as if everybody is having way too much fun. It's got to be the booze right? I mean why else would Andy run the bases twice after the third out of the inning was recorded? Does any sober person do that? That's like at minor league ballparks when they have two volunteers from the audience spin around a baseball bat with their nose several times and then have them immediately try to run in a straight line to the finish. (Andy, do not, I repeat DO NOT get any ideas).

And continuing the trend of parents coming to watch their "little ones" play, I heard that Rochelle's parents were able to attend the game. (Happy Birthday to Rochelle's dad!) I wonder what one's parents must think of when they first lay eyes on the man called "Wolan". He's a strapping young lad, for sure, but watch him for 5 minutes and you'll be sure to see him fall down a few times. I'm thinking that if I do take in a game, I'm brining my whole family... my wife, mother, father, sister, grandmothers, first cousins, neighbors, the greeter from Wal-Mart. Not because they want to be there, but because I have incriminating photos.
Ciao,
Mike
